Iron Man’s House: Called “The Razor” for its building site – Razor Point – this almost 11,000-square-foot home in La Jolla, California, was designed by renowned architect, Wallace E. Cunningham – named a “Top 100” architect by Architectural Digest – the predominately steel, glass and concrete home was completed in 2007-2008.
The four-bedroom, six-bath (four full, two half) home is often cited as either the “real” home of the Tony Stark character of “Iron Man,” or at the very least, the inspiration for the comic book hero’s home. It features myriad floor-to-ceiling glass walls affording spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Its cantilevered design is executed using white polished concrete and features as one of its visual centerpieces, a 5,100 cubic foot infinity pool.
This stunning home features two master suites in the main home and two guest bedrooms in a detached 1,300-square-foot guest home. The family room features Shagreen custom-designed liquor cabinets and a solid walnut ceiling. Travertine and Vetrostone is used generously throughout the home, as is solid walnut wood flooring and ceilings. One of the master suites features suede walls with the master bath showcasing counters and sinks of Vetrostone. The chef’s kitchen features the finest in appliances, including a Gaggenau cooktop and steamer, Miele dishwasher, Sub Zero refrigerator and freezer system and a Hoshizaki ice maker. There is also a professional kitchen featuring four Gaggenau cooktops.
The three-level home has a glass elevator which provides access to the four car-plus underground garage, a roof-top spa, and an outdoor kitchen with a built-in BBQ.
