Rockbridge Montecito Estate

765 Rockbridge Road, Montecito, CA 93108

Description: “Located in one of the most prestigious areas in the heart of Montecito, with panoramic ocean and mountain views lies the Chateau of Riven Rock, Rockbridge.

Immaculately clipped hedges border the palatial estate’s stone-pillared entry gates. The entrance opens onto a wide lane paved with hand cut Santa Barbara Stone that leads through a grand archway of undulating trees to the approximately 18,671 sq. ft. main residence. Hidden from prying eyes, the estate sits on an approximate 7.38 acre site with sweeping lawns, tiered rose gardens, tall Italian cypress trees, blooming lavender, and century old olive trees. Designed by Sorrell Design of Montecito, Rockbridge is a concept and construction masterpiece that took nearly five years to create and resulted in a residence without peer.

The russet-colored stucco walls and Provencal blue shutters help define the exterior’s distinctive Mediterranean flavor; antique terra cotta tiles imported from France and custom-designed wrought iron lanterns give the home its sense of romance. Formal terraced gardens rise from the motor court to a graceful rose arbor and antique water fountain. Hand cut stone steps invite one up into the outdoor garden rooms where boxwood hedges and iceberg roses abound.

A set of double-entry doors open into the large entrance foyer, tiled with French limestone from the “Var” region of France, and presents immediate sprawling views to the landscape and sea. All interior spaces were designed for a harmonious and livable flow. The walls are painted a warm butter-yellow, which introduces the seamless ambiance that links the formal entertaining areas. The main residence features handsome coffer and beam ceilings with heights between ten to sixteen feet, aged hickory pecan floors that glow with a lustrous patina, forced air heat and air conditioning, radiant heated floors, and state-of-the-art Ranco surveillance and security systems.

To the left of the Entry foyer is the grand and graciously proportioned formal living room. Three pairs of French doors open onto the vast entertainment terrace that looks out to the iconic ocean views and serene surroundings. The focal point of the living room is one of seven magnificent XVIIIth Century antique limestone mantelpieces imported from France chosen specifically for each room by the Designer.

An open hallway leads past the living room down to the formal library and study. French doors open onto a cozy outdoor seating area that overlooks the stone hedged creek and organic lemon trees. Inside, the grand Santa Barbara stone fireplace and wall of built-in bookshelves create an atmosphere of elegance and calm.

An exceptionally private, oversized guest suite is located adjacent to the Library and enjoys his/her baths, a fire burning fireplace, and garden views.
To the right of the entrance foyer is the dining room with a Trumeau style mantelpiece, elegant wall sconces, and a French antique chandelier. The room opens out to the terrace through two sets of French doors and has ample natural light.

A charming Family/Sunroom with fireplace is located just adjacent to the dining room and connects to the fabulous country style kitchen. A wall of Santa Barbara stone lends a rustic charm to this gourmet’s dream – where state-of-the-art appliances, counters of Calcutta marble, a wood burning pizza oven, dual central islands, an eat-in breakfast area and a delightful blue-white motif of ceramic tiles create the ambiance of a bright, cheerful kitchen in the heart of Provence. Beyond the kitchen are a Service kitchen, walk-in pantry, Housekeeping and Maid/ Laundry rooms.

Located up a graceful stairway on the second level are the Family living quarters. The grand Master Suite occupies a separate wing, which is connected through an intimate sitting room with a fireplace and Juliet balcony.

The Master bedroom enjoys a spacious private terrace with a vine-covered pergola, outdoor fireplace and wrought iron railings. The terrace commands majestic panoramic views of the ocean and Channel Islands. The bedroom features an antique mantelpiece, beamed ceiling, custom designed light fixtures, wall-recessed flat screen television and heated hickory pecan floors. There are his/her walk-in closets and baths, including an elegant, sybaritic bath for the lady of the house. The spa-like bath features marble wainscot, mosaic inlaid tile floors, an oversized spa tub, Herbeau plumbing fixtures, extensive marble vanities, a crystal chandelier and a romantic fireplace. Located beyond the dressing rooms, with a separate entry is a fully equipped Gym/Exercise room with a mirrored wall and ballet. Directly below the Gym/Exercise room, connected by a private stairway, is the office, featuring French doors that open up to a peaceful sitting area overlooking the rose gardens. The office also includes access to the five-car garage and exterior motor court.

The second level also includes three bedrooms to the left of the sitting room, all with beamed ceilings, private baths and stunning views to the garden. One of these rooms is the “Princess” bedroom complete with Castle bed and stairs to a fairytale inspired play level. The Family quarters are serviced by an elevator that goes to all three floors and a separate laundry area.

An approximately 6,147 sq. ft. lower-level full basement floor features Santa Barbara stone walls and opens up to a lower level patio area that provides a separate entrance to the billiard room.

The billiard room features a handsome four-seat bar and imbues all of the excitement of a casino experience – five-seat card and poker table, professional size pool table, various slot machines, and a separate video game arcade room.

Next to the state-of-the-art eleven-seat home theater is a gravel floored winery-style tasting room and temperature controlled wine cellar – an oenophile’s paradise! Also included on this level is a Massage Therapy wing that features multiple massage rooms, a salon quality pedicure chair, a Cedar sauna, a separate laundry area, and a changing room that services and provides access to the adjacent pool area. On the opposite end of this wing are two additional bedrooms and a cozy kitchenette.”
