The town is one of the wealthiest communities in the nation. In 2013, New Canaan was ranked the 5th wealthiest town in the nation on CNN Money’s list of the top-earning towns in the United States and in 2008 it had the highest median family income in the country.
New Canaan is the only municipality on Connecticut’s “Gold Coast” that does not border the coast and as such its proximity to New York City proved worthy of its own connection to the New Haven Railroad, being the only town to do so. New Canaan station and Talmadge Hill station are both on the New Canaan Branch of the New Haven Line. Most New Canaan residents commute to New York, Greenwich or Stamford regularly. Travel time to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan is approximately 70 minutes.
This breathtaking Transitional Northern California-style home was designed to bring the outside in, and the inside out. Extensive use of natural building elements and stone walls are beautiful reminders of the private sanctuary on which it resides. Inspired by the owners’ love of Sausalito architect William Wurster’s design, this entirely renovated home is surrounded by acres of conservation land, yet is minutes from town. Southern exposure offers plenty of sun-drenched space for all to enjoy.
